So I’ve been on a creative kick lately (which, after years in dry territory, I’m not looking this gift horse in the mouth). Here are a couple of new pieces that' I’ve created. Prints are available in the shop. One of the originals will be, too, as the other is slated for a show in July in San Francisco. Enjoy!
1. Pualani (8 x 8 inches, acrylic on wood)
2. Ginga (16 x 16 inches, acrylic on canvas)
My process of painting ...
A dear friend was curious as to how I approach my paintings so I set up a short time lapse demo to show how I work in translucent layers using Golden fluid acrylics, glazing fluid and a damp blending brush.
Spring Sale ...
Calypso ...
Happy to be once again showcasing work with Polu Manu Productions for their “Pasion de Frida : Frida’s Garden” exhibition at Puerte Alegre in San Francisco on July 8th, 2023. Here is one of the pieces and its progression: “CALYPSO”, acrylic on canvas.
Noche de Recuerdos ...
One of my most ambitious endeavors to date has been a large painting that took a year to complete, it was in pointillism and the original sold to a collector at ChimMaya Gallery in Los Angeles some years ago. I had taken photos of the piece but because the background was gold, it caused a bit of an issue with reflection. I recently spent hours in photoshop stitching images and mixing the correct balances, tones and colors to get it as close to the original as possible without losing integrity of the piece. This is what came of it. I ordered a photo from my printer and will order a larger one to see how it translates in a larger size, but at last I can say that I will be able to offer prints of this piece that many have loved.
Guardian ...
Recently completed for upcoming “Lucid Dreams” exhibition at Cactus Gallery in Los Angeles is a 6 x 6 inch wooden hexagon painted in Acrylic, Ink and Pencil. A mysterious figure haunts my dreams, usually once I am to enter a precarious situation. I call it the Guardian and she looks like a sterner, more intimidating version of myself. (There will be no prints)
Recently completed ...
Just completed this 24x30” painting in acrylic and ink for the annual Frida Festival in Houston Texas, brought to you by fellow Chingona, Lizbeth Ortiz. I am pretty pleased at how this one turned out. She doesn’t have a name just yet, but it will come to me.
Two New Pieces for Annual Frida Kahlo Show ...
Thrilled to be part of the Houston Annual Frida Festival curated and founded by fellow Chingona, Lizbeth Ortiz. This year will feature work from fellow artists George Yepes and Maria Kane. Happy to be showing with them again. Two new pieces (and a third in progress):
Prints are available in my shop.
LuLoo's Day and Night ...
If you don’t know by now, the talent that brought you Blood Bros. BBQ has now expanded and opened LuLoo’s Day and Night, a Houston eatery with backed goods, yummy lunches and a sophisticated bar. I currently have some of my work on display there. Thanks, Robin and Terry <3.
LowBrow Art Company / Black Market Art ...
I’ve recently partnered with Lowbrow Art Company who will be offering a selection of my work on other mediums that I do not provide here. The quality is amazing and I can’t tell you how excited I am about it. Check out my featured items (LINK) there to see what they have to offer.
