i was so p.o.’d when we left the car that i totally forgot my camera in there, so i have no pix. there is an 80’s room in the club and that’s where we spent the evening. a few drinks later, and egged on by all three of my sisters, we found ourselves on the dancefloor, acting like fools, and not giving a damn. my hips are killing me today, but it’s a small price to pay for having had such a great time.

just got back from frank’s birthday party [i left a bit early due to my bones still aching], but managed to take a bunch of photos. bettie and bill were there, and it’s always great to see them. umbrella man played with the addition of adam from the octanes and a surprise performance featuring mark halata. it was a wonderful afternoon [and i wore braids ... that i braided myself ... and i never braid anything. haha]

we missed Yoko Mono, but caught Vallejo [who were great]. i don’t think i’ll be going to any more GF shows. i was rather disappointed in the direction their music has taken. it’s still good, but they sound like every other salsa/cumbia band out there. what made them unique as artists is no longer present, or has been warped by sale-ability. or at least, that’s what i gather. i know they have it within them to get back on the track of their older work, and i suppose i shouldn’t begrudge them for growing, as artists, and trying new things, but i think i’ll wait and see how they DO grow because their current state is nothing very special [to me, anyway]. i wish them the best, and congratulate them on their grammy nomination [yay!]. whatever direction they take, they will always remain one of my favorite groups.

tomorrow is franks big five oh party at the continental. the octanes and umbrella man will be playing. it’s free, for anyone interested in going. from 4 to 8. [more yay!]

went to the canal street gallery. they really put on a spread. i didn’t stay long, just long enough to pick up my goodie bag and talk to a few artists that i know [*waves to juan carlos, lilibeth, michael ann, susan]. i’m in section A, square 48 and my 6×6 foot square is sponsored by Mix 96.5, a local radio station. also … i’m very close to one of the musical stages. it’s the one with two of my favorite local bands: on saturday it’s Two Star Symphony and on sunday it’s Sideshow Tramps.
