encaustic

i first discovered cold wax when i was looking for something that would add texture to my oil work. little did i know i was soon to embark upon an ancient method used in painting, works of which are still in existence well over 2000 years later. there have been many ways of working with wax and pigment, but i went about it my own way, fusing layers of oil color between wax [i don't usually use more than three layers of wax, though layers of paint can be very very many]. the result is quite fascinating, as the colors seem to be suspended just above the surface. it gives the piece a haunting lucidity that i have come to love. these can be purchased, if they are still available, in my etsy shop.
