octo-1 octophoto

i started this one a while back and it sat on the shelf for months. taking a wee break from the guitar, i felt the need to pick this up again. at this point, all it had was a wash of davy’s gray and titanium white, with a bit of detail in davy’s gray and payne’s gray, also a bit of gold leaf at the top and a layer of wax. i’d forgotten all about the wax and didn’t even know it was there, i suspected it was, but after hardening for so long, it was hard to tell. at any rate, it aged well and made a great surface to work with, taking the details quite quite well [in my experience, when i work quickly, the details get lost in fresh wax, especially when heat enters the mix].
