tetanus shot and a smile

i visited the texas junk company yesterday after work to browse the goods. i’d been there once before when i bought an old cabinet window and created “santa de dolor”. it’s a pretty big place and there’s some semblance of organization, but mostly, it’s just stuff everywhichwhere. :) i wasn’t afraid to get my hands dirty as i rummaged about drawers, bins and boxes full of rusty bits of metal. i found some really cool stuff: washers, cogs, doohickeys, whatchamacallits, etc. i really wanted a glass doorknob, but i couldn’t see paying $9.00 for one. [yeah, it's a resale place, but i imagine even resale items hold a certain value among collectors. supply and demand at work].

i loaded my little basket with “found” objects and bob the proprietor, sweet as can be, pretty much gave it away at the price he quoted. :) i’m definitely going back. i had actually lightened the load a bit before checking out as i thought i was getting out of the range i wanted to spend [$20], but i wound up paying half of that.

it’s a cool place, and i’d been meaning to go back for a long long time now to check out their used boots. unfortunately, the size i wear looked as if the previous owners loved them a little too much [plus, not a lot in my size to begin with]. the place is well stocked, though, and many are in great condition. i only wish i could have found some for me. it’s a crying shame that i’m born and bred here and have never owned a pair of real cowboy boots. crying shame, indeed.

some photos of the place; a description
