latin grammys [an update!]

i received the following email this evening:

Dear Julie,

On behalf of Houston es Música - Official Host Committee of the 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY® I would like to thank you for demonstrating Houston’s world renowned “can do” spirit by submitting a work of art to be considered as the official image of the 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY®.

When the committee was first given the opportunity to assist the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences by facilitating the Artist Award program some of our members suggested we decline due to the very short timeframe. There was concern that no artist would participate due to the challenge of creating an original piece that met the requirements in less than two weeks. Thanks to each of you and the coordination of the Houston Museum of Natural Science we were able to prove otherwise. Fourteen talented artists submitted wonderful pieces making the job of the three judges extremely difficult. They selected 3 semifinalists whose images were then provided to the Latin Academy from which a final piece will be chosen. You will be receiving a letter from the Latin Academy shortly giving you additional information as to the final decision.

Due to the schedule limitations, the process was not as organized as we would have liked and we did not do a good job in communicating with you during the judging stages. Some of you have shared very useful feedback that the Host Committee will note for future reference and will provide to the Latin Academy. Please accept my apology for any inconvenience our lack of organization may have caused but know that our intention was always to promote and highlight Houston’s diverse and talented artists.

The Host Committee would like to express our appreciation and honor all of the artists who participated at a reception on September 19th at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. A formal invitation will be sent closer to the event but in the meantime, we hope you will mark your calendar and plan to join us. With your permission we would like to keep the pieces until that time so that they may be exhibited at the museum during the reception. Please let me know if this is possible. If you prefer to collect your piece, I will advise Tiffany Silva at the museum and you may contact her to make arrangements. I hope to meet each of you on September 19th and have the opportunity to thank you in person.

i’m sure they’ve already notified the winner, as i said before, i didn’t expect to win, and the chance for exposure is ever present. what an honor i’d already spoken to one of the ladies about the event in september, and it sounded fantastic. i’m stoked
