heavy light metal

yet another blow to my fragile artsy ego. hang up the tins, julie.

i did some minor experimentation with metals and oxidation when i would incorporate copper into my boxes or cards. looks like i should get back into it. the sort of stuff over at that link inspires me to want to get better. i’ve only just scratched the surface of what’s out there. folks like that have a way of humbling me and feeling like i’m just some pre-k toddler playing in the sand.

On one hand, don’t beat yourself up about what you can’t do yet. You’re wonderfully talented.

On the other hand, I understand completely. I feel the same way when I watch certain other belly dancers.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. You have your own unique style. And there’s no reason you couldn’t do those tins. Once you set your mind to something you almost always accomplish it.

Here’s what you have that lots of other people don’t - original art. Transferring found clip art onto an altoids tin, a t-shirt, a greeting card, a drink coaster, a light switch cover, what-the-fuck-ever, it might all look nice, but the bottom line is, it’s crap.

Etsy (for example) is 99% crap. You’re one of the 1%, so stop yer self-doubt.

Do I need to come over there and tell you how much you rock?

i love the sinewy movements and confidence in the second video. she’s so sensual and her movements go from subtle to fluid-like.

thanks for the ego booster i didn’t mean to sound as down about it as i did. i know it’s just a different medium and all, but it’s something i wanted to get into [but am afraid of the chemicals and chemical reactions …. i made a “D” in chemistry, so you can understand my apprehension. lol! at any rate, i can appreciate beautiful stuff, and sigh and wish i could do it too.

thanks for the encouragement, tino the electroplating looks interesting [if not a little dangerous :\]

at any rate, this certainly added fuel to my imagination. i was already doing work with iron oxide in liquid format [it's what i made the papier mache Frida Box that was used for the recent invite out of. took FOREVER, what with all the coatings of oxidizer i had to put on to achieve that old weathered look, but it was certainly a hell of a lot quicker than waiting for the elements to do it naturally.]

you guys rock.
