christmas in july

. . . or something like that. the hits just keep on coming.

not bad hits, just opportunities; at a time that’s usually slow for me, unless i’ve got something already planned. the point is, i had wanted to get the revamped six06.com up so i can start writing to places and ask them to consider me for any openings or shows in their galleries. within the past several weeks, i’ve emailed one place in san antonio [and haven't heard back], but have been approached with the following:

  • accepted as a participating artist for Bohemeo’s East End celebration, june 8th and 9th
  • asked to be the featured artist at Ripley House in June [still waiting to get together with the art director about details]
  • invited as one of forty artists to submit work to Elder Street Gallery for an Independence show in July

and just today:

  • received a call from a representative of the Latin Grammys / L.A.R.A.S for a call for entry in their poster contest to be chosen as the Official Artist of the Latin Grammys hosted here in Houston this November.

*blink blink*

can you say “dumbfounded”? i’m waiting to get the package details and i’ll be forwarding them to other houston latino/a artists who may be interested. i can’t find anything about last year’s winner who made a big impression on the coworker who was raving about it when she saw the program last year. but i found these two past winners:

Andrea Arroyo

Vivian Zapata

the only immediate problem? the deadline is may 31st so i need to brainstorm and work quickly. [and largely, from what i see of these two past winners].

i’ve been enjoying the coasting time i’ve had up to now. that time when i have no real pressures to be somewhere, do something. yes, i’ve been enjoying it, but it could also be the reason i’ve not been inspired to take the brush to the canvas. perhaps this sudden whirlwind will be just the incentive i need to get my butt in gear.
